Tumelo Moalusi holds a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics, followed by an Honours degree in Mathematical Science from North-West University. He subsequently pursued an MSc in Applied Ocean Science at the University of Cape Town, where his research focused on wind variability in the South Atlantic Sector of the Southern Ocean and its influence on the upper ocean within a numerical ocean model.

Currently, Tumelo leverages his expertise in both computer science and oceanography in his PhD research where he contributes to the development of Earth System Modelling capabilities in South Africa by conducting a performance review of Earth System Model (ESM) components at the Centre for High-Performance Computing (CHPC) cluster. This in-depth analysis helps optimize the model’s efficiency and accuracy in simulating complex Earth system interactions.
